An Asbestos Microbiology Analyst is needed to perform the following duties:
- Perform analysis of bulk materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) and all ancillary quality control procedures.
- Prepares and analyzes the samples of solid materials that include but are not limited to Ceiling Tiles, Wallboard, Joint Compound, Plaster, Roofing materials, Insulations, Caulking & Glazing for asbestos content.
- Analyze the samples according to scientific methodology in compliance with company Quality Assurance programs and SOP’s.
- Validation of the asbestos fiber type and quantitation determined under the Polarized Light Microscope examination.
- Perform PLM methods in accordance with EPA 600/R-93/116 and EPA 600/M4-82-020.
- Perform EPA 400/EPA 1000 Point count.
- Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materials.
- Conduct routine quality control , quality assurance procedures & maintenance of the laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of all quality control procedures, SOPs and quality assurance manual produced by the laboratory.
- Review each report before sending to clients, perform quality control on a percentage of all samples and read blanks prepared by the laboratory.
- Perform intra-laboratory variability analysis
- Inventory control via weekly checklist and purchase ordering based on laboratory needs
- Knowledge of all the corrective and preventive actions as per required situation
- Calibrate, operate, validate, maintain laboratory equipment and instrument
- Maintain the daily quality control log book of the equipment usage.
- Responsible for customer service issues, reporting opinions, evaluating results and data interpretation.
- Confirmation analysis of presumptive and suspect isolates requiring critical thinking approach
- Accurately preparing and reporting sample descriptions and analytical data using the LIMS (The laboratory software)
- Maintain client service and provide technical support as needed
- Provide legally defensible data with consistent turnaround times
- Participate in NVLAP (National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation program) proficiency testing program and inter-laboratory round robin proficiency program.
- Analyze sample from NVLAP to improve the analysis methods and procedures.
- Participate in sample exchange program with other environmental microbiology laboratories participating in NVLAP.
- Active role in internal audits to verify that lab operation continues to comply with the requirements of its quality system.
A Bachelor's Degree is required in Biology, Biological Sciences, or Microbiology.
